Dateline OR Deadline?
Is there any difference between “dateline” and “deadline”? Are these words interchangeable?
ANSWER
“Dateline” refers to a line in a newspaper article that gives the date and the place of origin.
“Deadline” however, refers to the date or time a task needs to be completed.
Given the different meanings, we should NOT use these words interchangeably.
p/s: Reason why I was confused was because a colleague of mine was saying “dateline” when she actually meant DEADLINE. Sometimes people don’t know the correct pronunciation I guess!
Just observe and listen carefully to how these people pronounce these words below. Or you might wanna give it a try yourself!
| EGG | BED | LEG | HEAD | DEAD |
goodluck!
